Searchers are to return to the Upper Souris Wildlife Refuge north of Minot today to look for three-year-old Reachelle Smith.

Ward County Sheriff Vern Erck says search and rescue workers conducted an arm-to-arm grid search last night, along with divers in Lake Darling. He says it was called off about nine p-m, and will resume about eight Wednesday morning.

Erck says the search is centered around the area where a van with the body of 22-year-old Leigh Cowen was found yesterday. Reachelle was believed to be with him, but authorities found no sign of her. They believe Cowen killed himself.

Erck says yesterday's search was tough because of hot weather and wood ticks. But he says he wants to go over the refuge with a "fine-tooth comb." Erck says National Guard members also might help in the search.

The three-year-old girl has been missing since last Tuesday. She's described as white, about three-foot-four and weighing about 40 pounds. She has brown eyes and straight, light brown hair.
