A two day search for the missing Minot girl has turned up something. A flashlight was found in the same vicinity of Leigh Cohen`s van, the man who committed suicide and was suspected of abducting Reachelle Smith three months ago. The flashlight was found in an area where searchers had already been. It was found Sunday after a thorough search by bloodhounds in the Upper Souris National Wildlife Refuge. The Ward County Sheriffs Office says they haven`t found anyone who has lost the flashlight yet, but the Smith family told them they don`t think Cohen would have had a flashlight like it.
Detective Paul Metz: (Ward County Sheriff`s Office): "What does it tell us? Probably that the search they conducted on Sunday was a thorough search, I mean they found a flashlight, but it doesn`t help us at this point anyway determine whether or not Reachelle was on the refuge or in that coulee or in the refuge at any time.
"Metz says it looks like a flashlight carried by law enforcement, but it is available to the public. Bloodhounds will conduct another search for Reachelle either later this week or next week. The Minot Police Department will ask the city council on Monday to approve overtime hours for the search. The investigation has cost the city over $12,000 so far.
